Currently, 90 percent of seafood consumed in the United States is imported, 50 percent of which is derived from aquaculture. Worldwide, aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector and presents an enormous economic opportunity for our nation as aquaculture produces $230 billion worth of goods annually.
Unfortunately, the lack of a streamlined permitting process has hindered the widespread development of aquaculture farms in the United States. In fact, currently, there are no active aquaculture farms in U.S. federal waters.
Successful passage of the AQUAA Act would allow U.S. producers the opportunity to create jobs and meet the growing demand for fresh, local seafood.
Write your member of Congress today and asked them to vote Yes on the AQUAA Act.
