In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress came together in bipartisan fashion to pass relief bills. They helped offset the direct and indirect economic impact on the American people. Thanks to those efforts, our nation averted the worst-case scenarios.
Unfortunately, the pace of economic recovery has slowed over the last few months, and jobless claims are rising. Economic experts agree more stimulus is needed to aid the economy in the winter months before a COVID-19 vaccine becomes widely available.
Passing another relief bill should be Congress’ top priority. The American people need targeted assistance that focuses on the unemployed, helping small to midsized companies, and promoting workforce development and job training. The bill should also provide the needed aid to state and local governments.
