Forestville, WI: Future Angler Foundation (FAF) Executive Director Nick Schmal, NPAA #123, spent June 21st at Discovery World on Milwaukee’s lakefront with FISH, FISH, FISH ® summer campers in Grades 2-3. This was the first of two week long camps held at Discovery World that introduces the 20 participants on how to help prevent the spread of invasive species using the Clean Drain Dry® message. Schmal showed the campers how to identify popular sport fish, let the students the hold live bait (leeches and garden worms-thanks to Tammy and Bobby from R. B. Enterprises, Menomonee Falls, WI)). Nick provided casting lessons using backyard bass, brought several different reels and lures for handling, talked about safety in the sun and on and near the water. The campers also received fishing and outdoor instructional materials produced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. In addition, the campers got to take home their own fishing rod/reel combo and Future Pro Angler t-shirt compliments of the FAF and the National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA).
As part of the week long session, the campers also learned how to become ichthyologists by getting up close and personal with incredible fish in Discovery World’s Reiman Aquarium and explored how the Aquarium runs, and set various types of traps in Lake Michigan.
