Sturtevant, Wis., – Evinrude announced today that Team Evinrude Professional Angler John Hoyer has won the National Walleye Tour (NWT) championship. The event was held on Devils Lake in North Dakota, September 11-13. In addition, Evinrude Professional Angler Tom Keenan secured the Angler of the Year title.

Hoyer started the final day of the championship tied with friend Dusty Minke. While Minke had an excellent final day, Hoyer put the hammer down with a 24.59-pound limit. He fished six different spots in East Devils Lake for a three-day cumulative total of 67.73 pounds. Hoyer finished ahead of five other Evinrude Professional Anglers in the top 10. Dusty Minke, Tom Keenan, Adam Anderson, Paul Meelen and Kent Anderson finished third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Keenan scored enough points in his four tournaments to win the Angler of the Year points total, 11 points ahead of the closest competitor.

“It was a tough bite on Devils Lake,” said Hoyer. “It really came down to a boat race to the far side of the lake on all three days and I won that race every time. At one point I was five miles ahead of two other anglers that were going to the same location and my Evinrude gave me the time to set myself up in the right spot before they even got there.”
