This past Friday, March 29th, Certified Angler Educator Greg Karch and NPAA Member #138, hosted a fishing seminar to introduce Westside Elementary third graders to the Fishing Basics. Westside Elementary Is located in Kimberly, Wisconsin.
Greg kicked off his Fishing Basics seminar which educates the students on all the skills and equipment needed to fish such as: safety while fishing, fishing combos, casting, fishing presentations, knots, bait fish identification, the environment and the Clean Drain Dry message. Each time Greg had a hands on activity, he would ask for a volunteer, the students would quickly raise their hands in hope that Greg would select them!! After the Fishing Basics seminar, third graders had many questions to ask Captain Greg, such as what is his favorite bait to use while fishing and he said the Berkley Flicker shad in metallic perch pattern. Another third grader then asked Captain Greg what his biggest fish he caught? Greg showed them a picture of a White Marlin we caught a couple years ago that was seven foot long. You should of heard the WOW’s!!!! Greg just enjoys working with third graders!!!
Thanks to the National Professional Anglers Association each third grader went home with a Future Pro shirt. One of the youth asked Greg to sign his shirt and all of a sudden there was a line for Greg to sign their shirts. Greg said, “it is important that we help educate and promote the great sport of fishing to future generations!!!”.
